Pitkämäki falls short in javelin final

Tero Pitkämäki failed to save Finland’s blùshes at the World Championships in athletics on Satùrday night, finishing fifth behind two Czechs and two Germans. Johannes Vetter took control of the competition from the start, throwing 89.89 metres with his very first throw.
Czech thrower Jakub Vadlejch and Petr Frydrych upset hopes of a German 1-2-3 by throwing personal bests in the final, leaving Pitkämäki in fifth place. That means Finland finishes the World Championships without a medal for the first time since 2013.
